Travelodge London Central Aldgate East

Enoch at reception was one of the nicest Travelodge staff I've met, and I really appreciate how he looked after me. My brother had locked the room from inside and fallen asleep, so I couldn't get in with my key, and I'd lost my other one. Enoch made a replacement key and came upstairs to help, then let me charge my phone so I could call. When we still couldn't sort it out, he stayed with me downstairs, brought me coffee and a croissant, and kept checking that I was okay. He seems like a hard worker. Everything was clean and done properly, down to the little details.

The beds were very comfortable, the staff lovely, and everything else clean and tidy. Still, there were several problems: an old rubbish bag from previous guests behind the door, a broken tap patched with glue that felt rough, and a warped, noisy bathroom door. The window was bent and didn't seal at the top, letting in a draft and noise, though the draft didn't bother me. There was only one pillow per person and one spare between us, no bath or shower mat so we used a hand towel, and the shower temperature swung between hot and cold. We'd paid for breakfast on arrival, but when we went down the same person couldn't find the booking or proof of payment. I didn't report the other issues at the time because I thought I was making a fuss. Looking back, I should have said something.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the reception and bar area were nice. The room was a good size, with a comfortable bed and a decent shower. It's a handy location for public transport, and it was a good stay overall, especially with my dog along. The heating wasn't working when I arrived, and I couldn't get it going. Staff brought a portable heater, which helped, though the AC/heater kept blinking and made it hard to fall asleep.

I stayed twice for work in December 2025. The rooms were clean and fairly comfortable, if a little tired. We hadn't expected the nearby trains to be so noisy when we arrived late in the evening. On my second visit I was on a floor below the tracks, so the train noise stood out less than it had from the higher floor before. Most staff were friendly, but Anirudh at reception stood out. On both stays he was welcoming, efficient, and helpful, and nothing seemed too much trouble.
