The views from the upper floors were lovely, and the hotel has the usual complimentary tea, coffee and sugar, with refills available at reception. The car park is behind the building, so follow the signs. They clearly say not to park at the front. A few things about the layout caught me off guard. Reception is on the 6th floor, with guest rooms on the floors up to the 9th, and you need a key card to use the lift to those floors. I stayed in a family room, where the single bed was awkwardly placed right under the wall shelf and clothes hangers, so I had to move it myself. The bathroom had a shower but no bath, unlike every other Travelodge I've visited. Baths aren't guaranteed, but it's something to bear in mind if you need one. The TV was also much smaller than at other locations. I've stayed at quite a few Travelodges, and the name here is a bit misleading. It's much closer to Penge than Crystal Palace, right by the High Street.

I arrived hoping for an early check-in, and the receptionist was bubbly, helpful and full of information about the area. She also calmly helped me with the parking shutter. That could have turned stressful, so thank you!

The manager, Kristina, was lovely and made us feel welcome. Shelley was kind and very helpful during our stay as well. The rooms were exceptionally clean and well maintained, so we felt comfortable straight away. Wonderful stay and service. We'd happily come back and highly recommend the hotel.

The staff made the stay a good one. They were helpful and cheerful, and Omar was especially understanding of what my 8-year-old daughter needed. She wanted a top-floor room with a great view, and he went out of his way to make sure she had a lovely experience and put a smile on her face. The room was clean and tidy, and the bed was really comfortable. USB and USB-C sockets on both sides of the bed made charging my phone easy. The TV was tiny for the room, the bathroom was like a very small cabin bathroom, and there was no fridge, which made it hard to store anything that needed to stay cold. Breakfast boxes were a problem for me. They don't cater for vegan or lactose-intolerant guests, and I couldn't eat half the food without getting ill. Keep that in mind if you have an intolerance. If you buy other milk, there's nowhere to keep it cool. Apart from that, the stay was okay, and you do get what you pay for. There are lots of things to do around Penge, and Love Da Beat Radio does a lot for people locally. There are plenty of good pubs too, including Goldsmith arms, the pawleyne arms and The crooked billet. You must go to Southey Brewery. There's a vending machine at reception, but Aldi is a cheap and cheerful two-minute walk away and closes at 10 pm.

We came down for a festival, and having public transport right outside worked well for us. The rooms were clean, nice and roomy, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Free parking was another plus.
