Travelodge London Richmond Central

For a short trip, it was simple but just right. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Getting to transport and attractions was easy from the convenient location. Great value in London, and I'd gladly stay again.

I would have stayed several times and recommended Travel Lodge to lots of people if the booking issue hadn't put me off. I booked one night at a good Richmond price, but when the confirmation arrived, I saw the automated system had shifted the dates a week later. I called about it and was told to make a new booking. I did, but got charged double as well as a fee for “changing” the booking. The response to my complaint was clearly automated, and I've sent two more emails without hearing back.

The rooms are cramped and dusty, with barely enough space to open a suitcase. The room was extremely small, and the heating made a loud noise whenever it came on. You only get 30 minutes of free WiFi, then have to pay for expensive packages. In the bathroom there's just a shower curtain, no door, so water drips all over the bathroom door. The soap dispenser in my shower didn't work, and the soap and shampoo share one dispenser. The toilet leaked every time I flushed. When I complained, the man at reception said he couldn't do anything and offered another room, but its toilet wouldn't even flush. He's often away from the desk, so it's very hard to reach him with a complaint. This is arguably the worst hotel I've ever stayed at, and I wouldn't recommend booking here.

I spent two nights at Richmond Travelodge, my first time at a Travelodge, and it wasn't a good experience. The heating was annoyingly noisy, though the hotel was otherwise relatively quiet. The staff were okay and tried to help, but that couldn't make up for the coldness everywhere else. The whole place felt sterile, indifferent, and lifeless, with no colour, character, or warmth. My room was just as bare and oppressive, with locked windows and no distinctive features. It was claustrophobic and even a bit disturbing. It felt like nobody had put any thought into making it welcoming. I wouldn't recommend it if you can find somewhere else for a similar price.
