The staff were the best part, really friendly, welcoming and helpful. I had no trouble with noise from the big road nearby or from other guests, and it’s about as noisy as London usually is. There are off licences and a Chinese restaurant just around the corner if you don’t want to go further into Twickenham. The showers had variable pressure, which was welcome. The rooms are plain, the furnishings shabby with peeling veneer, and the beds were hard enough to leave my back sore after a while. I usually like a firm bed, but here I had to change sleeping positions. Still, if you want a cheap room and aren’t too fussy, you could do a lot worse. For the price, there isn’t much cheaper besides hostels. I understood breakfast to cost £8, with a basic full English: egg, bacon, toast, beans, sausage and hash brown, plus cereals, juice, tea, coffee and so on. I may have misunderstood, though, and perhaps only the hot breakfast costs extra.

The heating was turned off during the day in winter, when it was below 0 outside. The person at reception threw away the chicken I’d bought just 12 hours earlier, saying he thought I didn’t need it. The toaster was dirty, maybe uncleaned for two years, and didn’t work properly. We weren’t allowed to use the kitchen, despite what the pictures showed, and the staff were rude. Linen was only changed when you left, even if you stayed longer. The rooms, whether single or for two, had only one chair and no table, even in a twin room. The area was busy and not convenient for me. For the price they charge, most London hostels are much better in both condition and service. They need to decide whether they’re a hotel, hostel or homeless shelter, since they also accommodate homeless people during winter. What does “guest house” even mean here? Does it mean everyone stays for free, or something else?

For an overnight work trip, this was an excellent budget stay. I was upgraded to a double room at no extra charge, which I really appreciated, and check-in was seamless. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable, with everything I needed. The area didn’t seem noisy to me, just the usual London sounds. Thanks very much!

The location couldn’t be better, you can literally see the stadium from the room, and breakfast was nice. The rooms were basic but clean, though the single rooms are tiny. There were 11 of us, and one of the outside double rooms had an ant nest. The rooms got uncomfortably hot and we couldn’t turn off the heating. The beds were small. It’s okay for somewhere to rest your head if you’re at Twickenham.

The location was good, but I’ve travelled all over the world and never had a more disappointing stay. After checking in at reception, I asked for the key and the guy told me to follow him. He led me outside to the back of the house, where the rooms looked like a dog shelter. It was 11pm and I felt I had no choice. The room was awful and deeply disappointing. I’d rather sleep in a car or bus station. I’ll never stay there again. I wouldn’t call it Twickenham guests house, I’d call it Twickenham animal shelter.
