Veeve - Perfect Portobello

We had a quiet brunch around 11am on a Monday. The generous portions were good, and the potatoes came out hot and very crispy. I asked for poached eggs instead of fried with my chorizo hash. The decor inside could do more, especially given the extravagant entrance. The coffee was pretty average, and my partner’s truffle toast was VERY heavy on mushrooms. It was about £15 per person.

The sweet potatoes and lemonade were delicious, and the waiters were friendly. The place looks really good, but the rest of the food was just okay. The avocado toast was tiny, and the eggs Benedict needed longer cooking because the egg white was runny. The truffle fries with parmesan weren’t good: the parmesan was added later, and there was barely any truffle flavor. The fish was much too oily, though it tasted okay.

The place itself was lovely, with beautiful spaces and a great location, and we liked the drinks. But the service ruined it. Our waiter tossed the menu onto the table, and after we asked twice for water, nobody brought any. The portions were tiny for the price, and we were left waiting half an hour for the bill. We were really disgusted. I wouldn't recommend it.

We liked the food and the spot was ideal for tourists, with a pretty interior, but the service was awful. The waiter who seated us was rude and then didn't come back, so we had to get someone else to take our order. The waitress who brought our food was also incredibly impolite, and getting the bill took forever. Definitely wouldn't recommend.
