The Salwey Arms

The renovations and decor at the Salwey were beautiful, clean and elegant, and the wood burners made it very cosy. We came for a late evening meal and the staff kindly made space for us at short notice. They were really accommodating and made sure we were comfortable. The food was delicious, and the price very reasonable. One of the best restaurants I've been to in a while.

Dinner and breakfast were both good. The burgers were among the best we've had, and breakfast was tasty, good quality and plentiful enough to set us up for the day. We stayed two nights at the Sawey Arms, and the room was clean and cosy, with a comfortable bed. The welcoming feel started as soon as we walked in, and the friendly, attentive staff made sure we had everything we needed. It exceeded my expectations and I'd definitely recommend it for a stay and good food.

They managed to fit us in on a busy Sunday afternoon, and the food was top quality. The only thing I'd change is the bread butter, it shouldn't have been kept in the fridge. Otherwise, it was great.

The lamb and mash was nicely presented and tasty. The lasagna tasted good too, but was a small portion for the price and more like a loose stew with one flat piece of pasta, no visible layers. Service for food was slow. The Bakewell dessert was very disappointing, a few lines of chocolate didn't match the menu description. The two waiting staff were kind, polite and professional, clearly a credit to whoever trained them, and the building is lovely. If we came again and it was busy, we'd leave rather than stay to eat.
