Kent, Dawn and Abby made our stay at The Royal Lion Hotel special. Kent was calm, professional and easy to talk to, and always willing to help. Dawn was warm and attentive, and handled questions and requests with real care. Abby was cheerful and added a personal touch too. The hotel has historic character, comfortable rooms and a relaxed feel. With such a welcoming team, I’d happily return. Highly recommended for a visit to the area.

We loved the breakfast, with so much to choose from, and the swimming pool was a wonderful surprise. It was warm, well kept and felt like a real treat. The Royal Lion is a beautiful historic building with a big car park, and our room was spacious, spotless and nicely designed. Kent was a delight to chat with over breakfast and helped us with all our questions. We had an amazing stay about a month ago and can’t wait to come back in 2026.

The food was very good, and the Monday offer was much appreciated. We also enjoyed the fire, the lovely staff and the fresh coffee bags in the room. Booking a time to use the pool was a nice touch during our damp February stay. The sauna wasn’t working while we were there, so that’s the one star off. I’d happily come back and give it a try.

Our dog was made very welcome, and at breakfast my wife was surprised with a beautiful orchid for her birthday, which I’d mentioned had a zero in it. It was such a lovely gesture, and honestly made me look bad! The breakfasts were excellent, and the staff were brilliant from arrival right through to leaving. Nothing was too much trouble. We’ll be back.

We stopped in for a late lunch after spotting the 2 for 1 offer. The steak and Tanglefoot pie with Badger beer gravy was delicious. Great service, excellent ales and really good food.
