Mode Hotel Lytham

We booked the hotel's cheapest room at a lower rate because of the noise from the extraction fans. Aside from that, it's in a great spot for getting around.

The location is perfect, and the room was well equipped, with tea and coffee, a Nespresso machine, a large modern TV and the biggest bed I've ever slept in. The bathroom was nicely fitted out, with a shower big enough for a family. The decor is quirky and fun, and the staff were polite and efficient. I'd stay again. The Mode has its own character. It won't suit everyone, and it's not trying to be a typical hotel or attract the Travel lodge crowd. For check-in, I had to make a phone call, then I was in my room a few minutes later. The main problem was the heat. It was 25°C outside, unusual for the UK, and I measured 29°C in my room. There was no air conditioning. Opening the windows didn't cool things down, and cooking smells from the ventilation systems at the back of the building came in. The hotel had supplied a fan, but it only moved the warm air around. Noise from the ventilation, restaurant cooking and cleaning continued until 1am. That probably wouldn't be an issue with the windows shut.

I've stayed here many times because it's right in the middle of Clifton square, a fantastic location. The rooms are clean and have everything you need. They may be due for a bit of a facelift, though. I'll keep coming back, just a small observation from my last stay.

I usually have trouble sleeping away from home, but this bed was so comfortable and the sheets so soft that I was asleep in seconds. When I asked housekeeping for a phone charger, she couldn't have been more helpful. The staff also made a few calls on the 24-hour phone line, which this nervous traveller used several times, and they were always friendly and helpful. I stayed in a Comfort room. It was huge, with two large windows looking over the Square and out to sea. Everything I needed was there: a great complimentary coffee station, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, modern freestanding fan, USB ports, soft dressing gowns, a lovely vanity table and a full-length mirror. The hotel was spotlessly clean, modern and beautifully decorated, a real boutique place without any pretension. It was much more than I expected, and Mode made this, sadly rare, trip feel luxurious and pampering. I'm looking forward to trying more of their hotels. Thanks to all the Mode staff x
