The included lunch was one of the best parts of our spa day. We expected a limited menu or tiny portions, but we could choose from any menu, even à la carte, and the food was genuinely excellent with generous servings. Dessert cost extra but was worth it, and we added cocktails too. It felt like great value. Four of us had booked this as a surprise birthday treat for a friend, who also had a treatment at Bramble and Bee Salon inside the spa. They use their own homemade honey-based products, and our friend came back looking about ten years younger and wonderfully relaxed. You can buy the products at the spa or online, with free local delivery. There was plenty of time to unwind, with the spa open from 7am to 7pm. It was calm, clean and peaceful, and Sam on Spa Reception was endlessly patient with us. We spent time around the pool, in the jacuzzi and sauna, and having coffee in the café area, which has a lovely outdoor terrace. It made for a proper catch-up day, even if I was the one who forgot my flip flops. Despite some internet problems, the staff stayed friendly and nothing felt stressful or rushed. We arrived frazzled and left relaxed, moisturised, overfed and rather attached to the robes. The hotel lobby, lounge and restaurant have a contemporary luxe feel, while the spa itself is a bit more dated. It still feels comfortable, relaxing and welcoming. I’d absolutely recommend it for a birthday, a day with friends, or any excuse to escape for a few hours. You can book a package without lunch, though we wouldn’t have wanted to miss it.

We chose this hotel for our daughter’s birthday treat, and I was impressed by the thoughtful little touches, the decor and the spacious feel. Staff were attentive, and I really liked having table service at breakfast for a change from a buffet. It felt luxurious, though a few spots showed some wear and tear. The property is beautiful and well designed, and the pool was a good size. Having our own changing room was handy with two small children.

We enjoyed the hotel stay and had a lovely room, with friendly staff. We’d dined here before and they never disappoint. This time we had the festive lunch menu, and the sea bass was beautiful. The gingerbread cheesecake was a surprise highlight, wow, I could have eaten two! Since we were staying at the hotel, we came back for dinner and couldn’t fault anything. The crispy roast potatoes and perfect cheese board were great too.

Our RAF reunion went really well at the Grand Hotel Annex. Everyone liked their rooms, and we used the reception area on both nights to gather before and after dinner. We brought our own drinks, put on some background music and made use of the pool table. We all ate breakfast together and had dinner there one night. The food and service were amazing, and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. I’d definitely recommend booking the annex for a get-together with family or friends.

Breakfast was good, but the stay was thoroughly disappointing. I booked expecting the Grand Hotel and only found out on arrival that the room was in the annex. It was really cold, and the single electric radiator was inadequate and didn’t work properly. It clicked loudly all night and kept me awake. In the morning the shower tray overflowed, so I had to cut my shower short. When I went to reception about these problems, I was told I should have reported them during the night. Who would want to pack up and move rooms in the middle of the night?
