Macdonald Plas Talgarth Holiday Resort

We cut our planned stay short and left after one night because the facilities we came for, including the pool and restaurant, were out of use. Nobody told us before we paid or arrived, and we wouldn't have booked if we'd known. The bathroom floor also had broken tiles, which felt unsafe with a family. We've tried several times since to raise this with management and get a resolution, but haven't had any response. The accommodation fell short, the advertising was misleading, and the lack of follow-up made an already disappointing trip worse.

The grounds are full of rats, some as big as rabbits. I was afraid to open the patio door in case they got inside. The Wi-Fi barely works, and the accommodation needs a proper clean. It looks as though it hasn't been cleaned in months. Don't look under the sofa cushions or behind the bedside cabinets.

The grounds are lovely, but I wouldn't recommend staying here. It's the dirtiest place I've ever stayed, and management didn't seem interested in sorting anything out. Water was leaking through the ceiling onto the electric heaters. The manager said he'd come back shortly to move us and send maintenance because it wasn't safe, but he never came back. After we got home, we found out the place was for sale. Maybe that explains why nobody seemed to care about the condition of the accommodation.

We keep coming back to Plas Talgarth and plan to carry on. The views and setting are lovely, and there's plenty for children, from the mini park and tennis court to the outdoor and indoor pools and gym. It could use some cosmetic work and touch-ups, but if you're not too fussy about that, it's a fantastic stay.
