The pub is remote, so you'll need a car to explore the area, but it's a great base for doing that. The hosts were warm and welcoming, and have updated the two rooms above the pub with care. They're spacious and very comfortable, and the soundproofing means we couldn't hear the pub downstairs. A separate side entrance also gave us more privacy and security. The bedroom and bathroom were finished to a very high standard, better than some hotels. There was a good hairdryer, quality toiletries and drinks-making facilities. The bed was the most comfortable I've slept in away from home. Breakfast had a great choice of hot and cold options, and the varied dinner menu used local produce.

The only awkward bit was dinner with our two-year-old, as there were no highchairs. Otherwise, no complaints at all. The food was fantastic, and the cosy fire made the pub a lovely place to spend the evening. There was a decent choice of beer and wine, too. Our room felt spacious and modern while keeping plenty of character, especially the one we stayed in with the nice wooden beams. The shower was decent. I loved the location: it feels in the middle of nowhere, but a five-minute drive gets you to Malmesbury if you want a town.

The room was spectacular, and the bed super comfortable. The staff were very friendly and handled my dietary requirements extremely well, going out of their way to buy vegan-friendly products. Excellent service during my overnight stay.

The owners are amazing and made us feel welcome. It's a lovely place to stay, and the food was perfect, no faults at all. Nearby towns are a short drive away, making it a great spot for a short break. We'll go again.
