Hotel Indigo Manchester - Victoria Station by IHG

We’d enjoyed our stay last year and were looking forward to coming back, this time through a package with Strictly Live tickets, even though I’m an IHG member. The staff we met were all friendly and helpful, and our twin room on the 7th floor was immaculate and very nice. Breakfast was lovely too. There was an awful sewage smell in the bathroom. We didn’t complain and sprayed perfume before going in, but by the next morning it was VERY strong. The location, food and staff would still make us want to book again.

Room service was quick and good, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast had a good selection and tasty hot dishes, although they could take a while to arrive. The tap water had a noticeable chlorine taste. Our King Premium room was very clean and comfortable, especially the box-spring bed. We couldn’t hear anything from neighbouring rooms, though there was some noise from the street, trams and trains. The hotel is right by Victoria Station, which made it a great base for exploring Manchester. We’d happily return.

There’s plenty of storage, plus a small refrigerator, and they provide water, tea and biscuits. The linens were great, housekeeping came daily, and the front desk staff were very helpful. It’s a modern hotel in an old building across from Victoria station. The Medieval City is two blocks away, and the Football Museum is across the street. There’s also a good restaurant and coffee shop. Nothing to complain about, everything to praise.

My stay was disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend the hotel based on this experience. The room felt extremely noisy: it was on a low floor beside the tram station, and its communicating door let me hear every movement and sound from the neighbouring room. There was virtually no sound insulation. I was given an accessible bathroom without requesting one. It was uncomfortable and impractical: shower water went everywhere, and the sink was very low and small. At dinner, the restaurant was mostly empty, but they still seated customers right next to one another for no clear reason. It felt poorly thought out and unnecessary. Overall, the hotel didn’t seem to care about guest comfort.
