4/10

The bathroom was cramped and mouldy, and the shower was hard to use. The water wouldn't drain, so I had to get out before it overflowed. Standing in three inches of dirty water wasn't appealing either. The room was freezing, and the radiator valve controls were broken, so there was no way to adjust the heat. Check-in took ten minutes because the bar staff aren't hotel reception, and someone had to come from elsewhere to bring the room key. The pub's live music wasn't a big issue and stopped around 10 pm, but a pub hotel won't be tranquil. The room was very tired and needs updating. It wasn't dirty, but it wasn't very clean either. Cheap, but not cheerful. It would do for one night at a push, but don't expect luxury.

The staff at the hotel were really friendly, so I feel bad leaving this review. But you couldn't sleep there. My partner and I stayed one night, and I'm glad we didn't stay longer. After six in the evening, the pub party started, with loud music that vibrated through all the rooms above it. It didn't stop until 2 am, so I can't recommend it if you want to rest. The pub staff apparently have no connection to the hostel, and they were rude when we asked about the rooms. The Wi-Fi didn't work. The room was hot, so I turned on the ceiling fan without realising it was covered in dust.

The music from the pub below comes through quite a lot, but it stops around midnight. For a decent price, this is a really nice room in a great spot, and I'd definitely recommend it. It's a lovely little hotel above a pub in the heart of the Northern Quarter, close to great food and bars and just a short walk from transport and the city centre. The rooms are immaculate, with clean, comfy beds and a nice hot shower.

There was no heating at all, and the room was 9 °C. After five calls, all the promises from staff and the manager to fix it or turn it on came to nothing. The room was tiny and sat right above a very loud bar with very poor Elvis impersonators. The bed was boxed in on three sides, and the floor was uneven and slanted. The room and bathroom weren't very clean. The toilet was tight against the wall, so the shower door could open only onto dirty old carpet. There was no lock on the door. This place should be closed for good.
