It’s nice that the Nevill still feels like a pub where people can pop in for a pint or two and feel comfortable, alongside the restaurant. We were a family group of 14 for dinner and an overnight stay, and the team looked after us with real attention and friendly, efficient service. Dinner was superb, with excellent locally sourced meat, well presented and served at a good pace despite a busy restaurant. Breakfast was even better, with plenty of choices, generous portions and the same attentive service. The rooms were spacious, delightful and beautifully furnished, with high quality accessories; the complimentary biscuits and gin were a lovely touch. Thanks for a memorable pre-Christmas stay. We definitely needed a brisk walk in the morning after all that food!

The food was incredible, and they really tried to accommodate my intolerances. There wasn’t a wine I could have, which was fine, but it took well over half an hour before anyone discussed the wine options with us. Our meal arrived without drinks, and we felt ignored. It was hard to get anyone’s attention even though staff were standing across the restaurant.

The atmosphere is always great and the rest of the roast was lovely, which makes it a shame that the meal was such a letdown. My pork came as three slices, but each had a thick strip of fat, about 1.5cm around halfway round, as well as crackling. After trimming it, I was left with barely one full slice of meat. I mentioned the problem, but nothing was done, which felt like little regard for returning customers. The £95 bill covered two roasts, two £12 desserts, two beers, a Campari and an £8 glass of house red. The ginger sticky pudding was decent but not worth the price. Pear crumble in a sundae glass was bland and didn’t feel premium in taste or presentation. For a gastropub Sunday lunch, the prices are similar to The Oak Room at The George in Stamford, but the quality and attention to detail didn’t match. With so many good Sunday lunch options nearby, we’ll go somewhere else next time. Visited for Sunday lunch on 5 October 2025.

We were welcomed at the bar and the front of house staff were accommodating when we arrived without a reservation. We’d come for lunch on friends’ strong recommendation, and after previous visits I had recommended the restaurant too. The setting and sought-after location make the high prices understandable, but a dog eating sausage at the table right beside us was completely off-putting. It was eating from the table and being served on the same plates as the main menu, which made the place feel like a dog petting zoo. If I’d known there was a dog menu served at tables, I wouldn’t have come, as it wasn’t advertised. We left before finishing our meal and won’t return after this experience.

Had the weekday lunch menu at 1pm and everything was faultless. A lovely pub restaurant in a beautiful spot, with friendly staff, tasty food at very fair prices, lovely decor and immaculate toilets. Highly recommended, and I’ll be back soon.
