The fish cakes and beetroot salad were a hit, and the burgers came fully loaded with really tasty fries. The burrata salad was lovely too, and the Caesar had a generous amount of chicken. Our wine was nice as well. There were four of us, so we tried starters, mains and wine. I've lived in Marshfield for five years and had been to The Nelson a couple of times before, when it was only so-so. The building doesn't seem to have changed much under the new management, but the food and service are much, much better. Friendly staff, and we’re looking forward to coming back.

The pub was busy with locals having after-work drinks when my daughter and I stopped in for an early Thursday supper, but the service was still quick and attentive. I had the burrata salad with wild garlic pesto and really enjoyed it. I'd definitely come back and would recommend it.

The Nelson Burger and the Isle of Wight tomatoes and burrata salad were stunning. We started with Wye Valley Asparagus, Pea and Taleggio Arancini. Popped in for lunch today and the food was fabulous. Such a lovely little hidden gem, highly recommend.

We hadn't been in the Nelly since Alistair, and the first change after that wasn't really for us. These new people are really nice, though. The beer was perfect, apart from one dodgy end-of-barrel pint, which they replaced without any fuss. There's a good wine selection, but my wife found the pink wines too sweet. Maybe wine boxes would help, since they keep longer once opened. We didn't try the food, though it looked delicious. Let's give the new owners a chance.

We came from 300 miles away as strangers for Christmas dinner, and Trudy and Phil made us feel so welcome that we left as friends. The dinner was beautifully cooked, and Trudy was a perfect hostess. Wishing you all the best with your new venture, and a Merry Christmas and peaceful, prosperous New Year.
