The Barn Hotel & Spa

The food was a real highlight. Every dish we tried was great, breakfast had plenty of choice, and the evening meals were lovely. Best of all, the sourdough pizza from room service is the best pizza I’ve ever tasted! We’ve visited twice in six months and can see this becoming our regular place for special occasions. We came to relax and did exactly that. The staff make the place feel special, nothing seemed too much trouble, and Philip was such a great guy. The bar area felt a bit rowdy for dinner, but when we asked, we were able to eat in the relaxed lounge, which made our evening. We brought our own birthday cake and wine, and staff were happy to provide plates and glasses. The health spa is on the small side, which suited me. It felt like enough without being a huge, busy space. The pool, steam room, jacuzzi and sauna were nice, and it was lovely to meet welcoming regular spa members. Can’t wait to see the refurbished gym next time. Keep it up, and please give Phillip a pay rise!

We had a comfortable, pleasant stay, and the room was a good size, clean and lovely. There was a separate bath and shower, plus tea and coffee facilities. The spa and pool were very nice, and both evening meals were excellent, with superb food. Service was slow, though it wasn’t the staff’s fault. One evening there was just one person covering tables and the bar; the next night there were two staff for twice as many guests. Reception was harder to deal with. A simple request seemed to become a big issue, and I felt uncomfortable for asking. We paid £10 per person per day for breakfast, but cancelled the second morning because it was awful. The eggs were dry, the sausages shrivelled, and the bacon like leather. The continental selection was laughable, and the coffee was Nescafe from a Thermos jug. It was still a pleasant stay, but I’d avoid breakfast.

The staff were so friendly and chatted with us, and everyone made us feel very welcome. We had a lovely afternoon at the barn hotel & spa, with a really nice brunch of hot tea sandwiches and chips. The health club team were friendly too. I’ve booked another spa day voucher so we can visit again. It’s a lovely venue, and I’d fully recommend it. My future husband and I had a very pleasant afternoon here, and we’re getting married here next year. So excited!

Courtney’s full body massage was incredible. She was very professional and worked out all my knots, easily the highlight of the day. The afternoon tea was lovely too, especially the scones, which were absolutely off the scale! I came with friends for a Groupon spa day and paid £148 for a weekend day pass, treatment and afternoon tea. The building felt a bit tired. The sauna, steam room and pool were okay, though they could have been cleaner. There were only four recliners and four chairs, so nowhere to sit when we arrived. Whenever someone left a recliner, someone else would sprint over to claim it. The changing rooms were dated and not great, with just three small private changing spaces. That wasn’t ideal for those of us who don’t like getting changed in front of other people.
