Ellen House Bed and Breakfast

I booked this lovely B&B in Matlock at the last minute. It’s close to Matlock train station, just a short walk up the hill. Ann and John welcomed me warmly, and the room was comfortable with everything I could need. The House Special breakfast, Salmon Benedict, was wonderful.

Anne and John were my favourite part of the stay. They were both welcoming and friendly without ever being intrusive, and after nearly 20 years in the area they had lots of local knowledge and made great recommendations. Thank you for such a wonderful visit. If I come to Matlock again, I’d book Ellen House without hesitation. The location is fantastic, near the station, the town and several starting points for walks and hikes. The spacious rooms were very comfortable and scrupulously clean, with toiletries, tea and coffee facilities, plenty of storage and extra blankets. Breakfast was superb, and they kindly adapted it to my preferences. I tried a different dish each day and enjoyed every one. I’ve stayed in many different kinds of accommodation over the years, and Ellen House is easily one of my favourites. Highly recommended!

Anne and John’s hospitality was second to none. Their home is the best B&B I’ve ever stayed in, with beautifully decorated rooms designed around what guests need and then some. The breakfasts were delicious, and I especially loved the beautiful English garden, with lots of places to sit among the flowers and wildlife. Thank you both for everything. You made our getaway just perfect. If I could give more than five stars, I would!

The breakfast John made was lovely, and we really enjoyed the fruit, Greek yogurt and homemade preserves too. Anne and John were full of ideas for things to do and places to eat around the area, which made the stay feel much more personal than our recent hotel visit. We’d booked Ellen House B&B at the last minute for a weekend in Matlock, and were lucky to find a room. The welcome was warm, the room was clean and nicely set out, and there was plenty of tea, coffee and toiletries. The flapjack was a nice touch. Thanks to you both.
