Pillarbox Cottage

The spiral staircase is worth keeping in mind if you're carrying a heavy suitcase, since it makes getting upstairs a bit more interesting. The cottage is also at the top of a steep hill, but don't let that put you off. Think of the steps as a chance to feel the burn, and you won't regret booking. Inside, it was homely, warm and really comfortable, just right for a couple. The recliner sofa was a lovely touch. I didn't meet the owner, who lives onsite, but he replied to my messages promptly. Matlock is one of our favourite places, and there's plenty to see within a half-hour drive. You can leave the car at the cottage too, with good bus service and a train station in town.

The patio furniture sits in a little suntrap, and it was very quiet with no traffic noise. We spent 4 nights in this beautiful cottage, which was spotless throughout and had everything we could possibly need. It's handy for getting to other places as well. If you're very tall, mind your head when getting out of the bath. I highly recommend it.

Such a lovely, quiet and clean weekend away for our anniversary. My boyfriend and I would definitely stay again!
