Matlock is only a short walk away, and there’s plenty of parking. Ziz was a wonderful host, and breakfast was delicious. The beds were so comfortable that I had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in ages. My son booked me a night because he’s just moved to the area, and I wish I’d stayed longer. The property has lovely rooms, full of character and beautifully decorated. It’s a perfect base for exploring the Peaks. Thanks for such a great stay, I’m looking forward to coming back before too long.

Ziz is a star, and the property is stunning. I’ve just moved next door and booked a room for my dad after he helped me move. I’ve stayed in B&Bs around the country, and I don’t think you’ll find a better one. The rooms are beautifully decorated, the home-cooked breakfast is delicious, there’s ample parking, and Matlock train station is within walking distance. A perfect B&B for exploring the Peak District, Matlock, Bakewell and the surrounding area.

It was easy to unwind at Sheriff Lodge after a busy day out, thanks to the calm, cosy feel and all the thoughtful details. We used it as a base to explore Derbyshire: Hardwick Hall brought out our history-loving side, we had a tart and a cuppa in Bakewell, browsed the shops in Matlock, and ate a fantastic meal at The Gate Inn and The Fishpond. We also happened upon the Tansley Sunday Market & Carboot Sale, which was a great find. From the moment we arrived, the place felt welcoming and made for a brilliant break.

Breakfast has set time slots, so there’s no need to wait. There’s cereal, fruit, yoghurt, a traditional breakfast, mushrooms and local specialities to choose from. Our clean, spacious room was charming, with a huge bed and three windows, including a bay window with an armchair. The little touches made it special: chocolates on the vanity, glasses, mugs, tea and hot chocolate. It was warm and cosy, with an extra electric radiator and blanket available. There were books, a large TV, complimentary slippers and a box of useful items such as a shoe horn, sewing kit, toothpaste and sanitary products. For exploring the Peak District, there’s also a tray for muddy boots and hooks for wet coats. Sheriff Lodge is a great choice for a few days in the Peaks, just a five-minute walk from Matlock village centre, and we were warmly welcomed.

We had a great stay a few weeks ago. Ziz gave us ideas for walks nearby and further afield, along with good tips on places to eat. The service was so good that five stars feels like an understatement, and breakfast was spot on.
