The Old Lockup

We stayed in 'The Solicitors'. The bedroom was where prisoners met their solicitors, while the bathroom was once the old cell, so the room name fits. The building stopped being a police station in 1952, and its history comes through everywhere, from the memorabilia in the hallway and landing to the lovely black cast iron handrail winding up the stairs. Using those stairs gave us a real sense of the place’s past. Tim made us very welcome and cooked wonderful breakfasts. Our comfortable room had a small fridge and tea and coffee facilities. The location was perfect. The room, especially the bathroom, is starting to look a little tired and might need updating soon, but that wouldn’t put me off staying again.

Tim gave us a warm welcome to this old police station, with memorabilia dotted throughout the B&B. Our room was clean, warm and comfortable, and our host prepared a delicious breakfast beautifully. There’s a local pub and shop a short walk away, and parking is available.

Wirksworth was a vibrant village I’d never come across before, but I’ll certainly visit again. This little B&B is ideally placed for exploring it. Tim is a friendly host, the rooms are comfortable and supplied with everything you need, and his breakfasts are great.

We stayed three nights at the Old Lockup during our recent holiday in England. It was a very pleasant experience, with quirky decor, free parking and a friendly, hospitable host. The accommodation was comfortable, breakfast was wonderful, and it made a great base for exploring the Peak District. Thanks again, Tim :)
