The peaceful feel of the hotel and its grounds was lovely, and we’d definitely come back. The gardens are well kept, with plenty of space to walk our cocker spaniel, and the Abbey ruin right beside the grounds is well worth seeing. Our room was small but fine for the two of us and the dog. The bathroom was a good size, with a shower over the bath, and every staff member we met was friendly and helpful. It’s a fantastic setting.

The views from the windows were beautiful, and there’s a lovely area to explore. My husband and I spent a holiday at Dryburgh Abbey last week. It was just as on our previous visit: friendly staff and excellent food.

We were stopping here with the family on our way to north Scotland and called that day to ask about prices, instead of booking a Premier Inn or Travel lodge. A very helpful woman said the Abbey room was available and already had a sofa bed, so it could sleep four. She quoted £156, which sounded good, so I booked it straight away and added it to the reservation our family had made earlier. We arrived late and were told to pay in the morning. While my husband loaded the car, I checked out and was asked for £206. When I queried it, the man said the room was £156 plus £50 for the spare bed. I kept asking about the difference, but he repeated that was the charge. I felt intimidated and didn’t think I had another choice, so I paid. My husband went back in because he knew we’d been quoted £156. The desk staff member again said the extra £50 was for the additional bed, took our number, and said he’d speak to the woman who gave the quote and call us back. Our family told us they’d paid only £30 to have an extra bed put in their room. Why were we charged £50 for a sofa bed that was already there? A week later we still haven’t heard from the hotel, and they haven’t contacted our family either, even though they have their details. The room wasn’t worth what we paid. We won’t stay here again or recommend it.

The atmosphere here is really nice, with clean rooms and low noise levels. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the facilities, food and drinks were excellent. I’d recommend staying here.

Dryburgh Abbey is right nearby, and the hotel looks beautiful overlooking the river. We needed somewhere calm and quiet for our dog after stem cell treatment close by, and this dog friendly place was perfect. The staff were fantastically helpful and everything was super clean. The receptionist gave us a lovely welcome back on our second stay. Restaurant food was gorgeous, and breakfast was hearty and spot on. I had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. We’ll be back!
