Birch Lodge 16, Newton Stewart

Newton Stewart is within walking distance and has everything you need, while the forest is right on the doorstep for anyone who loves the outdoors. The lodges are clean and well kept, and the pet free ones are handy for people with allergies. Kids can enjoy the outdoor space and small play area. There’s plenty to do nearby with young children, as long as the weather plays along.

We stayed in the Lord Galloway lodge, which sleeps up to eight and welcomes pets, so there was no need to leave ours behind. It’s beside the golf course, and lodge guests get reduced green fees. The lodge was beautiful and had all the catering equipment we could need, plus a hot tub where we could relax and listen to the forest. A great place in the heart of the Galloway Forrest park.

The living room, dining area and kitchen are open plan, and the self-catering place was fully equipped, clean and comfortable. There’s a wooded area nearby, plus a little town with shops for food and drinks, so picking up supplies before check-in was easy. A lovely riverside walk starts right beside the shops.

We’re on day three of a seven-night stay and so far it’s been great. The Lord Galloway lodge is a brilliant family holiday spot, beautifully designed with something for everyone. Our 12-year-old is in boy-paradise, with his own bedroom, bathroom and games room. There’s loads to do in the area, and we’ve already filled the week with activities.
