Such a shame, because the building itself is beautiful and has a lovely history. But we’d never stay here again. The place felt dirty and run down, from the entrance with hair and bits of rubbish to the accommodation, and the prices felt like a rip-off for a half-way house. The owners or management came across as ignorant. Our wet room had no drainage at all, including the sink, so it flooded constantly. The decor looked cheap and tacky, there were very few utensils, and it was draughty. Once opened, the windows wouldn’t shut because the hinges were rusty or broken. They say it’s soundproof, but that wasn’t true for us. Loud bass music kept us awake from 9pm to 1am on the second night. We complained to management then, but they didn’t reply until 8.45am the next morning. The music started again the following night and they did nothing. They chose to ignore us, and are still “investigating” to this day. We got no compensation or goodwill gesture for the sleepless nights, just £10 from booking.com, which was disappointing. We looked for somewhere else, but everything was booked over Easter, and we had our pet. Places that were available wouldn’t take pets.
