We didn’t stay at the hotel, but popped in at the last minute yesterday for an early dinner and they found us a table. The food and drinks were great. Service was a bit affected because blondie seemed more interested in chatting up the barman than serving us. We found a better waiter, who pointed out some excellent specials. I chose the acclaimed pie, and it lived up to its reputation. Wine by the glass, beer and cider were good too.

We’ll be back. The food was really nice, especially the fish and chips and steak pie. The starters were delicious too: haggis scotch egg, and scallops with black pudding and chorizo.

We came to the restaurant for my son’s 30th birthday, and I couldn’t fault the service or the food. Staff took our drinks order after showing us to our table. The food came out piping hot and looked well presented, and everyone was very pleasant and attentive. I’ll definitely return.

The people are what make The Ship Inn for me. Drew and Lewis are stars, always friendly and welcoming, and they make me feel at home whenever I visit. You can tell they care about the place and its customers, and the atmosphere is lovely. I’ve been a few times now, and the food is consistently good. I always look forward to going back.

The roast beef was cooked perfectly, with potatoes crunchy outside and soft in the middle. The carrots were just right, and the cheesy cauliflower was a lovely treat. We shared sticky toffee pudding, with delicious, rich custard. Luca was so kind and attentive, as was Frida, I think that was her name. We went for the Sunday roast after hearing lots about it, and had a really great afternoon. The food was fabulous, staff were great, and the price was good. We finished with a drink and a chat in the bar. Highly recommend.
