Rosie, the 150-year-old gypsy caravan, was a special place to spend the night, with its wood burner and lovely view over the Elan Valley. My boyfriend and I stayed in late September, and the accommodation was clean, characterful, and comfortable. Kat and Tim were friendly and helpful, made us feel well looked after, and nothing seemed too much trouble. This working farm is a fun place for adults and children, with animals all around. The Rias were very friendly, or maybe just hungry! We also enjoyed meeting the owls, other birds of prey, and the other animals. A unique, lovely experience. I wish Kat and Tim every success as they expand the falconry centre.
The view from the caravan was stunning, especially once the stars came out. It’s far enough from everything to avoid light and noise pollution, but still close enough to go out for a meal. We drove around Elan valley and would highly recommend doing that. We stayed in the rosie gypsy caravan for one night in mid-February to celebrate our anniversary, and it was just what we wanted. There were animals everywhere on arrival, including emus, horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, geese, llamas or alpacas, rabbits, guinea pigs, peacocks, and a falconary. We’d book again, but a couple of things are worth mentioning. We booked spontaneously just a few hours ahead, and since it was off season, the kitchen facilities could have been better organised, though we did find what we needed. It was colder than we expected, so trips to the toilet and kitchen felt off-putting. The cabin took about an hour to warm up enough that we didn’t need jumpers or blankets, and we had to keep the window shut most of the time. When it was open, we stayed cosy under a blanket and enjoyed the view. If we came back in February, I’d give them more notice, bring more suitable clothes and footwear so we could spend more time outdoors, and stay longer than one night.
There’s no shower, WiFi, or electricity, which is part of the rustic feel. The little caravan is lovely, and its personal fireplace was nice on cold nights. There are walks and falconry available, both of which I’d recommend.
There’s plenty to see, and it’s a really fun place to visit. The host was welcoming, and the shepherds hut was beautifully presented and well equipped. It’ll be a superb venue once the shower facilities are finished. :)
The caravan was so cramped it rocked every time I moved, and there was clutter everywhere. Hardly any room at all.
