The refurbished space has a cosy feel, with nice furnishings, at least one log burner and three or four TVs showing sport. They’ve opened up the room by knocking down some walls, so it’s more spacious than before. There are also handy screens with live train information for the nearby station. I went for a Hobgoblin and it was very good. There are three cask ales on hand pump, alongside the usual Heineken-led selection of lagers, the so-called exotic ones all brewed in the UK, of course. The food was nice, though it felt expensive, but then everywhere does. The full menu starts soon. This was my first visit since the refurbishment, which reopened a few days ago.

We had a delicious Sunday lunch, beef for me and nut roast for my partner, and the service was great. They’ve done a really good job refurbishing the place.

We only dropped in to see the refurbished place, but the bar snacks tempted us. The food was lovely, and it felt friendly and cosy inside. We’ll be back to try the main menu.

The live band were excellent, both the talent and the material. The staff and food were just as great, and it made for a brilliant night in an unspoilt pub. I’ll definitely come back.

The beer was well kept and poured nicely. I was there for a meeting tonight and was well looked after. The Railway has improved massively compared with how it’s been for years. The staff are friendly, and the new licensee knows their stuff and is keen to make the place even better, with some exciting ideas.
