INNSiDE by Meliá Newcastle

The room they eventually found for us was a lovely suite overlooking the river Tyne, with an extra bed arranged for our son. It was clean and well laid out, with a huge bed, tea and coffee facilities, and complimentary drinks in the fridge. I liked that the modern smart TV had streaming apps and YouTube built in. The layout was unusual in a nice way: the sink and shower were in the room, while only the toilet had its own enclosed space. We had a fantastic view of the river too. Getting to that point was stressful. We’d won a night at INNSiDE Newcastle, but while driving up, the PR agency called to say there’d been a mix-up and no room was available. We were meant to see the Royal Northern Sinfonia and needed somewhere to change. The agency said we could use the toilets on arrival, but that still left us without a place to stay. Hotel staff confirmed the agency hadn’t booked a room. They were understandably confused, but told us to sit down, offered us drinks and sorted it out. Parking is the drawback. Spaces are limited, and it cost £18 for 24 hours, the most expensive place to park in Newcastle. It’s convenient for the hotel, but not cheap. In the end, we had a really nice experience, and I’d recommend INNSiDE if you’re looking for a hotel in Newcastle.

We only had a quick visit, so didn’t get to try the restaurant or breakfast, but we’ll definitely be back. The location is fantastic, our room was spotless, and the mini bar had free soft drinks. Reception were really friendly and let us check in very early, at 11.30am.

Good value in a convenient location. The rooms were very clean, comfortable and nicely decorated, and the staff were helpful. Breakfast was very good too, with lovely views of the river.

Breakfast at the Gino d’acampo restaurant had loads to choose from: hot dishes for a full English, fruit, cereal, cheese, meats, pastries, bread, jams, juices and a coffee machine. There really was something for everyone, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was our first stay and we were so impressed. The hotel looks beautiful inside, especially at Christmas, and we loved the Grinch Christmas tree. Our second-floor balcony room was sparkling clean, with plenty of towels, complimentary healthy drinks in the fridge, tea, coffee, shower gel and hand wash. The area was quiet too, we couldn’t hear a thing once the door was closed. We loved the whole stay, thank you!
