New Northumbria Hotel

The staff were very helpful, and the rooms were spotless and a good size. It was nice to have both a bath and shower, especially after work or a shopping trip. The only thing that bothered me was the tiny lift: it could take one person and two large suitcases, and if someone on another floor didn't close the door properly, it got stuck there. I'd recommend the hotel for a leisure stay.

The hotel is spread across several sections with steps, and the floors creak quite a bit. It's dated and could use some maintenance, though my room was very quiet, and I imagine rooms near the bar may be noisier. The bathroom was okay, and service was quick and friendly. Rooms are fairly large, and I had a nice stay.

We had a fantastic Valentine's night away. The room was clean and tidy, with a comfortable bed, and the hotel had a great atmosphere from the mix of modern furnishings and its period building. We also ate at the adjoining restaurant, and the meal was fantastic.

The front desk staff were efficient and helpful, and the rooms were a decent size, clean, with good bathrooms. I'd come back, but I won't have breakfast there again. The food was below average, and sending it back didn't get the order corrected. You could hear the chef in the dining room when it went back to the kitchen. It's a shame for the hotel. The two waitresses were very different: one was courteous and efficient, while the other seemed disinterested, curt, and close to rude. The other guests exchanged chuckles, nods, and smiles over her behaviour. The kinder waitress offered to refund the £20 breakfast charge before I left, but I declined. I run my own business and think the owners should know what's happening in their kitchen and dining room. My nephew, who shared my room, skipped breakfast even though we'd paid for it. I had a wonderful time at Osborne's next door the previous night, where the staff were excellent, especially the waitress at the hot food section. The breakfast service really needs to do better.
