The Kenilworth

I took my 5-year-old daughter for a one-night Newcastle trip before she went back to school. We arrived early, and the manager was really friendly. She upgraded us at no extra cost to a double bed and a single in a quieter room for my daughter. After checkout, the hotel also let us leave the car in the car park for the day. We took the metro into the city and came back at 5pm. The room was spotless and nicely furnished, the bathroom was lovely and clean, and the carpets throughout the hotel were fresh. The staff were very friendly. We’ll definitely come back if we need somewhere in Newcastle.

The public bar downstairs was very reasonably priced, though its customers were substantially younger than me! We had keys for after-hours access, and all the staff we met were friendly and accommodating. The room was spacious and clean. There was no bath, but that wasn’t especially important. A pleasant overnight stay in a good spot not far from the city centre. Parking behind the building near reception is limited, though it may be enough. The room being clean and spacious should be normal, of course, but after so many nights on the road for work, I know that isn’t always the case.

The owner was really nice, and breakfast in the morning was great. We had a decent stay, though staff numbers seemed low and things felt a bit disorganised at times. We waited a while to check in, and a mix-up meant we had to switch rooms. The hotel is above several bars, which wasn’t ideal during freshers’ week. It didn’t keep us from sleeping, but families might be better off in rooms at the back if possible. I don’t want to sound too critical.

We were in the lowest room, closest to the busy street, but it was very quiet overnight. The room was spotless, and I enjoyed a hot shower before heading down for a freshly cooked breakfast. The owner was so friendly and helpful. It’s a lovely part of Newcastle to stay in, and we’ll be back :)
