The Wheatsheaf Hotel

My friends stayed here and found their rooms very clean and comfortable. I joined them for an early evening meal, with a good choice of dishes at reasonable prices. The food was nicely presented, piping hot and tasty. Breakfast was excellent too, freshly cooked and hot, with a full English for £10, competitively priced. The staff were friendly and helpful. I’ll definitely come back to eat, and my friends plan to stay again.

I used the hotel as a base for four nights exploring the island, and its central Newport location was fantastic. My standard room was warm and comfortable. Some nights I could hear rowdy people in the street below, though it wasn’t a big issue overall. The shower was so small and claustrophobic that I had to leave the door open. Staff seemed stressed, but helped when I needed extra toiletries. Breakfast was included, with fantastic service and a huge choice: full English, eggs on toast or cereals.

I came in cold after cycling, and they lit the real log fire for me. With mulled wine and a beautiful handmade pizza, I felt like the Queen of Sheba. The bar had a wonderful atmosphere, even when I was there alone, and the evening staff tucked my bike away off the street. My room was made warm and comfortable, and they explained they’d only recently taken over and were working through the rooms gradually to redecorate and renovate them. Breakfast was lovely, though the woman there the next morning wasn’t quite as helpful.

I was travelling on my own and felt safe and comfortable in the private single room. It had everything I needed and more, and was clean and modern inside a lovely historic building. The staff were welcoming, pleasant and helpful, and breakfast was really tasty. Thanks so much to everyone. I’d happily recommend the place and would stay again.
