OYO Newquay Beach Hotel

The hotel itself is lovely, with plenty of room to relax or socialise in the bar and restaurant. It’s centrally located, and I would stay again, but I’d ask whether the mattress had been replaced. It was horribly uncomfortable, hurt the backs of my legs when I sat on the edge, and meant I slept badly. The room was small, and the bed made it hard to shut the bathroom door. There also wasn’t enough space to put toiletries down instead of on the floor. Those are smaller issues, though.

I wouldn’t stay here again. The room was in shocking condition, with a worn and dented mattress, filthy carpets, cracked walls, and peeling wallpaper. The customer service was terrible too. I’d booked the wrong weekend by mistake and tried to change it directly with the hotel while travelling, despite having poor signal. They had availability but refused to help, telling me to cancel through OYO, while OYO told me to call the hotel. I ended up rebooking the correct dates on my phone just to secure a room. At check-in, management said cancelling the original booking on the OYO website “wouldn’t be an issue.” They failed to mention the hidden £34 fee, which I was charged when I cancelled. Avoid.

This place is nowhere near a four-star hotel. The reception was unmanned when I arrived, and I had to call a mobile number to get someone out of the office. The stair carpets were filthy, and my small room smelled of stale cigarettes. The bar and restaurant were shut, and there was no breakfast, despite breakfast being listed on the booking. Check the recent local news about this place and think carefully before booking if you’re expecting somewhere nice.

The staff were generally pleasant, and the on-site parking was a big plus at £10 a day. The location is very central for getting around Newquay and the surrounding area. Our room was clean and tidy, with a balcony and lovely views, though it felt small and a bit claustrophobic. Breakfast itself was lovely, but I’d have liked some juice choices and an offer of anything else after we’d chosen. The bar wasn’t open during our stay, which was disappointing but not a major issue. Good value overall.
