Sladesdown Farm

You really wake up to the countryside here, with birdsong, green fields, a horse and plenty of ducks around the farm. On a clear night there are loads of stars. Esther's breakfast was a highlight, with farm eggs, fresh apple juice from nearby orchards, homemade jams and more. The rooms are spacious, clean and cosy, and the homemade flapjacks on arrival made my day. Esther runs the B&B, which used to belong to her mum, and she made us feel very welcome. The roads are narrow in places, as country roads often are, but we never needed to reverse out, and the place is so peaceful. Good restaurants are only a short drive away. One of the best B&Bs I've stayed in, and I'd highly recommend it. Thanks for your hospitality, Esther!

We picked Sladesdown farm for a short break because the remote farmhouse, surrounded by farmland and rolling hills, stood out straight away. It turned out to be just right. Esther welcomed us into her home and made us feel at ease from the start. The grounds are beautifully kept, and everything was spotlessly clean. Our room was really spacious, the bed super comfortable, and the view so refreshing. Breakfast was hard to fault: everything fresh, with homemade bread and preserves, and even the coffee tasted great. I'd recommend Esthers hospitality to anyone looking for a B&B nearby. We travel widely for work, and this is still our favourite place to stay by quite a margin. The B&B rooms were amazing, and Esther, the landlady, couldn't have been more helpful. She also had homemade jam, bread and flapjack for us to take along as a reminder of our stay. The lanes are narrow for a short stretch on the way in, but the farm is just off the A38. It's handy for Dartmoor and the nearby beach towns. Ashburton is just across the A38, and Totnes is worth a call for its independent shops, bohemian characters on the High Street and historic places. The hill is a bit steep, but tea houses, coffee shops and the occasional pub give you places to stop for a break.

Ashburton, the nearest town, is lovely, lively and has a really friendly, supportive community. The house is beautiful and sits in a fabulous setting. Our room was enormous and very comfortable, and our hostess was such a lovely lady, always happy to help. I can't recommend it highly enough.
