The Cook and Barker Inn

Even though we were full, dessert was too tempting. I had the meringue and my husband chose the cheesecake, and both were amazing. Before that, we’d gone straight to mains: I had the king prawn curry, he had the gammon, and the portions were huge. Both dishes were delicious and filling. We hadn’t booked, but were lucky to get a table just before it got busy after 12. We sat near the bar, which suited us, and I loved the interior of both the bar and restaurant. The atmosphere was lovely. Service stayed attentive and friendly as the place filled up, with staff checking that we had what we needed. My husband brought me here for lunch and we absolutely loved it. We’ll definitely return with friends.

The fires were roaring on a chilly May evening, making it really cosy and comfortable. We’d walked over from Percy Woods caravan park while staying there, and had booked a meal. The food, wine and service were outstanding. I’d definitely recommend this pub.

The location worked well for sightseeing, with Lindisfarne, Alnwick Castle and other places nearby, and parking was easy. We stayed three nights over a long weekend and had a nice room. We enjoyed the pub for drinks, but the meal was poor. The tortellini wasn’t nice at all, and although my Pepsi was lovely and cold, my beer was a bit warm. We only ate there once and went elsewhere for meals after that.

We came back each evening during our three-day stay elsewhere near Alnwick. The food was fresh, plentiful, and expertly prepared and presented, and we really enjoyed the drinks and service too. There was a good choice of beers and an extensive wine list. Though the restaurant is quite spacious, it always felt cosy. Thanks! Booking is recommended, it’s busy for a reason.
