We really appreciated the hosts' advice about bike routes. The area is great for cycling, and the guest house made a perfect base. Faye and Dane were lovely, and our room was very clean and well stocked. Breakfasts were wonderful and made to order. A thoroughly delightful stay.

Lovely hosts, a comfortable room, and very good food. Great value too.

I chose a ground-floor room, which made getting around easy and added to my comfort. The Stables Guest House has a charming, cosy feel, and the hosts were so welcoming and attentive that I felt right at home. Breakfast each morning was plentiful and delicious, a great start to the day. I spent three nights there in October and had a wonderful stay. I can't wait to return, and would happily recommend the place.

The mattress was the big letdown. It sagged and creaked, and the springs jabbed me, making my troublesome back worse. It really should be replaced. With a decent bed, we'd give five stars. We stayed two nights in June, mainly because my partner wanted to visit Wigtown, which is close by and has limited, expensive places to stay. The neighbourhood felt very safe and peaceful, and the local museum is just 50 yards away. We love museums and thought it was a must-visit. Parking is available privately for several cars, but getting in and out takes care if others are parked. The bedroom had good central and bedside lighting, plus blinds and curtains for a dark room. There were two chairs, a writing desk, mirrors and hooks on the back of the doors. The TV only gets live broadcasts, with no internet, catch-up or streaming such as BBC iPlayer. There was a bedside radio, too. Wi-Fi worked pretty well except occasionally in the dining room. USB and power sockets were plentiful, and there was ample drawer space for a longer stay. A large kettle, mugs and a good range of teas were provided. We didn't ask about fresh milk, though perhaps you could buy a pint at the local shop and keep it in the breakfast-room fridge. Breakfast was excellent in a large, airy room, with plenty of cereals including mueslis and granola, three kinds of bread, one tasting homemade, and Marmite, peanut butter, nice jams and marmalade. The cooked breakfasts were top-rate, and the eggs tasted very fresh. There's also a residents' lounge and garden. We enjoyed listening to the variety of singing birds, and the town's Swifts put on great displays past our bedroom windows.

I rarely write reviews, but this place deserves a strong recommendation. The owners were kind, polite and always ready to help with whatever information I needed. They were great with kids, which was a huge help as I was there alone with my two boys. Everything was so clean, and there was a garden, car park, and hot and cold breakfast, with everything we needed. Thank you, Dane and Fay, for such amazing service. God bless you both.
