The Park Hotel Tynemouth

We liked the bar and restaurant, the friendly, helpful staff and the lovely breakfasts. There was a good choice of gin and other alcoholic drinks, and the location suited us perfectly, even with January's dreadful weather. Our two-night stay had one big letdown: the spacious room's shower room and toilet weren't very clean. We told David and two other staff members, but nothing was fixed while we were there. They promised it would be sorted for a future visit, and gave us a free drink as another apology. We hope to return because the staff and the bar and restaurant were lovely.

As locals who used to be pleased when the Inn opened, we don't want to stop eating at TCI, but the uneven food quality is making us reconsider. I remember ordering chips and finding only one or two decent ones on top, with little broken bits underneath. The sea bass with bean and chorizo sauce was a very small portion, with just one piece of chorizo. I was really disappointed and don't think TCI should be serving food at this low a standard. We care about the service as regular customers.

The views are amazing, and there was plenty of parking. Tynemouth's amenities aren't too far away, either. I'd book a sea-view room and get up for sunrise. Our room was lovely, with fabulous sea views, though its odd layout could have been better planned and the ensuite was especially cramped. The refurbished hotel is nicely decorated, and the huge bar has plenty of alcoves and seating, but it felt a bit dark to me and could use sofas or more relaxed seating for guests. Service was excellent once we found someone, although it was clear there weren't enough staff. Highly recommend.

We had a lovely three-night break and came away smiling. The staff greeted us warmly, the service was right on point, and the food was delicious at all three meals. My room was just right, nicely decorated and at a perfect temperature for sleeping. I'd absolutely recommend a getaway here.
