Breakfast was delicious, and that was the best BLT I’ve ever had. It’s a lovely little pub with a good drinks selection and a great atmosphere. My room, number 7, was neat, tidy and well furnished, and the en suite was excellent. The mattress was very soft, though, and I could feel the base through it.

The staff were friendly, though tired, and breakfast was served quickly and was nice. There were several full English options, a vegetarian choice and, to my surprise, pancakes. The room was clean and spacious, with enough furniture for a longer stay, though some things looked a little aged. It had a medium-sized window overlooking the beer garden, a public passage and the kitchen, and the bathroom had a standard shower. The shower was the biggest frustration: only a mist came out, it took at least twice as long to wash, and the temperature kept switching randomly between just hot and just cold. Pub noise was an issue, especially people fighting outside at the back in the early hours. The notice saying cars in the customer car park are your responsibility made me very uneasy with the fighting going on there. We didn’t try having a drink downstairs because the clientele gave us a death stare whenever we entered the bar. I realize the venue wasn’t directly at fault, but it all affected the experience. The Black Bull is very central on the High Street, with customer parking behind the pub and a small beer garden. Next time, I’d probably choose somewhere away from the High Street.

Food is served at lunchtime every day, and I’ve eaten there a couple of times. It’s competitively priced and pretty darn good home cooking. The pub sits right in the middle of the High Street, with professional, friendly staff and a good selection of draught bitter beers, lagers and other drinks. Well worth a visit.

A very friendly little pub in a really central spot, but the room at the back above the alley was so noisy on Saturday that I was still awake at 3am. I then had a 5.5-hour drive home, which wasn’t great. They should provide complimentary earplugs for room 4!

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the twin room was clean and tidy. It had a TV and Wi-Fi, and was well priced. We’ll certainly be going back. Dave from Swansea.
