The oaklands hotel

We celebrated our Diamond Wedding anniversary with friends and family. David and his team did an excellent job, and we’d highly recommend them.

I stayed here the night before my wedding. The staff were extremely polite and helpful, and I couldn’t fault them. The food was great too. There’s a lovely lawn to relax on outside, and it’s a great location. I’d highly recommend it.

The pub is dirty, and the kitchen is worse. The owner is often drunk and creates a very unpleasant atmosphere. I’ve seen him make racist remarks and inappropriate sexual comments towards staff, which was shocking. Staff are spoken to in an appalling, completely unprofessional way. It doesn’t feel safe or welcoming, and I wouldn’t recommend going there. I’d advise reporting it to Environmental Health.

The setting was lovely, and we sat outside to eat in the nice weather. People coming into the hotel were friendly and made a huge fuss over our two dogs, which they absolutely loved. We were there for a nearby dog show and stayed one night with them. Our room was spacious and clean. There was a charity event on, so we had a buffet dinner, and the food was lovely. The woman helping us was very accommodating. Since we needed to leave before breakfast, she arranged fruit and water so we wouldn't go hungry. She wished us luck for Sunday's show. If you read this, Roxie came second in her last run, less than a second behind first place. Thanks for having us, we’ll be back next year. x
