Peter, the manager, was friendly and responsive to my emails while I arranged our group visit. Thanks to him and the whole team. We were 45 people staying overnight at the Duke Street Premier Inn on the hottest day of the year so far, and everyone was happy with the clean, comfortable rooms and how quickly we were all checked in. We ate together in the restaurant on site and had a lovely evening with good food. The restaurant and waiting staff worked really hard and were happy to make last-minute changes and additions to our choices.

Our Premier Plus room on the fourth floor was clean, the bed was comfortable, and Thursday night was quiet. The hotel is well placed, with a few nice cafes and bars nearby and an easy walk into the city centre. We arrived 45 minutes before check-in because traffic was lighter than expected. Early access meant paying extra, but staff were happy to store our bags until we came back after 3pm. There's a council-run multi-storey car park next door, though hotel guests don't get discounted parking.

My usual Premier Inn is the Berlin Mitte one, with high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, and it feels like a different standard altogether. I hope that becomes the direction for Premier Inn rather than staying an exception. This hotel was adequate, but underwhelming. What counts as basic has moved on since it was built. Management should aim for a budget Hilton and make the Premier Plus setup standard, with fast WiFi for everyone.

The big downside was the heat in the room. The heater wasn't on, but it was roasting, and there were two fans provided, which makes it seem like a known problem. I'd hate to find out how hot it gets in summer! I stayed in a standard room in April 2026. It was generally the usual good Premier Inn quality, and the location is fantastic for the city centre. St Andrews multi-storey nearby made parking easy.

The staff at reception were kind and chatty, and the city centre location was really convenient. The bed was large and very comfortable, with extra pillows provided. I liked the big TV and range of channels, the purple lights behind the headboard, and the roomy desk. There was plenty of light from the lamps and mirror lights, plus a large getting-ready mirror, hairdryer, and kettle with tea, coffee, and milk. The shower pressure was good, and there's a restaurant on site, though I didn't try it. The bathroom needs attention. It felt a bit grim, the floor had hair and dust on it, and the shower curtain didn't feel clean to me. The extractor fan was also very loud. My sheets had marks and stains, and the corridors and lifts felt worn and outdated. I missed having a fridge. The vending machine downstairs charged £3 for a bottle of water, so walking about ten minutes to the shops is a better option. I was also a little uncomfortable that my luggage seemed to be kept in an office rather than a secure luggage room. I was comfortable overall, and the location was great, but the hotel needs better maintenance and some updates.
