River Rooms

The room was clean, comfortable, and fairly priced, but the flashing dehumidifier kept going all night. The shower had shampoo but no body wash. We also didn’t receive the key code until an hour before our stay, despite contacting them earlier. Since we were a 2.5-hour drive away on Christmas night and the place was self-service, I was worried we might not have anywhere to stay. They offered a small refund within seven days, but a month later, after a couple of reminders, it still hadn’t arrived. It’s not about the money, it’s the principle of offering a discount and not following through.

We stayed at river rooms in December 2025 and couldn’t park at the property because a nearby sports event had filled the very limited hotel spaces with revelers. I called the office number they provided six times, but only got an automated “we're in a meeting” message, with no advice or alternative parking. We drove around for hours until a space opened up on site, even though parking had been guaranteed. There were no lifts, something the website didn’t mention, so as overseas travelers we had to haul our 20kg suitcases up several flights of stairs and through narrow, maze-like corridors. After we left a review, they offered a 50% refund if we removed it. We thought that was a fair deal and took down the Booking.com review, but the refund never came, and the administrators have ignored our attempts to contact them. There was also a smell of sewage and a lot of noise. Don’t stay here unless you can carry everything you bring and are okay with the tactics they use.

The rooms were spacious, very clean, and had good facilities. Customer service was great, and they were happy to answer questions. Parking was free, though arriving early is the best way to get a spot. The stairs are steep and narrow, so keep that in mind if you have mobility needs. I managed with my crutch, and my wife helped with the luggage. It’s not wheelchair friendly.

The place was called an apartment in its name and photos, but what we got was a room with an en-suite, no kitchen facilities, and no fridge. It was a damp basement room with a dehumidifier and no daylight. People in the room opposite partied all night and smoked weed. They then asked me to remove my negative review in exchange for 25% off, so I wouldn’t trust the ratings. After that, they charged me £19 for taking the key, even though we’d put it in the key safe and locked it. This was the worst accommodation I’ve ever experienced, an absolute scam.
