Oakham hotel

The rooms weren't turned over, and the condiments weren't refreshed. I'd even left a sign asking for the towels to be changed. There was never anyone available to ask, either, as there was no reception on arrival, just a key code and key box to get into the property and room. I was here for three days on business, and I travel a lot. We ate at the Everest restaurant on the first night, and the food was great, no complaints there. Unfortunately, the location opposite the church made it noisy.

We asked for extra pillows and staff brought them over quickly, and there was bottled water in the room. The bathroom was clean, but had no shelves or towel rails. There was no mattress protector, which really should be a must. The mattress was very uncomfortable, and we had a winter quilt in a hot room. The bedroom was described as having a view, but it didn't. Its only window faced into the building, so other residents could see into the room. The accommodation was very basic, with little thought given to the layout. There was nowhere to sit with a mirror or hairdryer. Calling it a room for a night would set the right expectation, because 'Hotel' gives the wrong impression.

Great location, just five minutes from the station. The roof terrace was a nice bonus, and I loved the mix of old and new decor. Would come back!

No A/C in a room when it was 30'C. Housekeeping brought up two fans for the room under the roof on the second floor, but they were super loud. The TV had no remote and couldn't be used without one. No hairdryer, no clothes hangers. What a joke. Worst hotel stay I've had in the UK in 15 years.
