We spotted the White Horse on the drive back from Stamford to our hotel in Rutland Water. What a brilliant accidental find. They greeted us with a smile, and the pub had a cosy, welcoming feel with an Italian flair. The mussels were absolutely delicious, and the garlic bread was generous and far from ordinary. My partner's fillet steak with blue cheese sauce was a real wow. My pappardelle stroganoff was tasty too, though they didn't have pappardelle, which offended me a bit. I had to choose between penne and spaghetti, and I bet it would've been better with the pappardelle as intended. They suggested a good wine for us. After dinner we took our glasses over to the sofas by the log burner in the bar area. It was lovely to relax by the fire after eating. We'd definitely go back.

The location is good, but the car park needs a lot of work. Several menu items don't match their descriptions. Things listed or described as roast are actually chargrilled. The ice cream was good. There's a lot to improve before I'd return.

That meat platter for two is huge and definitely worth trying. I loved the food and the service was excellent. Italian cooking in a traditional British pub is an unexpected combination, but it works so well. Keep it up! x

The village is beautiful and the location near Rutland Water is great. Benjamin and Ben did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. We had two rooms, and one wasn't as good as the other, though I think it could be spot on with a little time. The place has only recently reopened, with the new owners first concentrating on the bar and restaurant, so attention now needs to go to the accommodation. There were a couple of small issues, but it was still a very nice stay. The food was excellent and the staff were pleasant and attentive.

I’ll be back soon. The Sunday lunch was the best I’ve had in ages, with real Angus beef, and I couldn't fault either the food or service. It is very pricey for a Sunday lunch, though, and the prices for it should be displayed.
