I had low expectations of this Wetherspoons hotel when I booked for a work trip, but it turned out far better than any Premier Inn or Travelodge. The place is unique and very well done. The food and drink are from the standard Wetherspoons menu, but were genuinely good value. I can’t fault it and will use it again. Thanks.

We’ve stayed here several times with large family groups, and the previous visits were exceptional. This time was disappointing, apparently because of staffing issues. We were here for a family funeral. At 2pm check-in, only a few rooms were ready, and we waited about 30 minutes because the staff on hand were busy serving at the bar. The rooms were spotless and very well equipped, including an iron and ironing board. The showers were great, it was easy to set the temperature, and the rooms stayed lovely and warm despite the freezing weather outside. One letdown: even though we left our towels in the shower, we didn’t get fresh ones on the second night. The evening food was okay. Breakfast was a different story. Huge thanks to the breakfast staff. Our group of around 30 ordered partly through the app and partly at the bar, and every meal came out hot, quickly, and tasty, with good value. The free tea and coffee were very welcome too.

Matt was such a help during my visit with my granddaughter. He got us a high chair, helped with my fussy order and the menu, and refilled my coffee so I didn’t have to leave the little one or take her with me. My eyesight isn’t what it used to be, and he was especially kind about that. He’s a real credit to the Spoons team, a shining star. We had juice by the fireplace before moving to our meal, and the staff were amazing. This is my second favourite Spoons after The Queen’s Head in Tavi, and well worth the extra time and bus fare. Perfect service, thank you, Matt!

Food and drinks were fine, with the usual Spoons selection at a slightly lower price than in nearby towns. The disabled loo is excellent in both size and standard. Accessibility around the rest of this old building feels like an afterthought: only one indoor area is wheelchair friendly, up the long ramp on the right. The tables are packed too close together there, making it hard for wheelchair users and other people to get past.

We popped in for a drink, then decided to eat as well. The bar staff gave us a really friendly welcome, and the food arrived ridiculously quickly. Thanks to everyone for being friendly, professional, and efficient. Much appreciated!
