Malmaison Oxford

Jed was a wonderfully friendly and entertaining bartender. We arrived early and had to wait to check in, but he made us feel welcome. The basement bar is well worth a stop for a drink or snack. The building is historic and full of character, and it’s very walkable to both the train station and attractions. Our room was spacious, with comfortable furniture and bed. When the room had a smaller UK king bed instead of the “super king” described online for the “club room,” Callum tried to help. No super king rooms were available, but he offered single duvets for the bed. The website says a “club room” has a “super king,” while other room types have the smaller UK king. We booked it because that was the closest option to two twin beds. The room had two spacious rooms with a nice sitting area, but not the promised “super king” bed. If that matters to you, I’d make a specific request for one when booking instead of relying on the room description.

We stayed in a club room in the newer part of this unusual historic hotel, right by the castle. It was clean, large, and well equipped, with a big comfortable bed, modern bathroom, and lovely balcony looking over the castle mound. The rolltop bath was especially relaxing after a day of walking. The place has lots of character and atmosphere, but is well adapted and decorated. Check-in was quick, and the staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast had a nice range of fruit and bakery items, and the hot food made to order was brilliant. I’m not a fan of the usual buffet where scrambled eggs sit under a heat lamp for ages. We spent a Sunday night here while exploring Oxford for a couple of days. It was an excellent stay, and I’d recommend it and return.

We had a great two-night stay and are already talking about coming back. When our bath leaked, the staff handled it incredibly well and moved us to a different upgraded room. The location is ideal for shopping, restaurants, cinemas, and the university, all within a five- to ten-minute walk. We parked at Westgate shopping centre. It was a short walk to the hotel with our suitcases, but very simple, and I’d recommend parking there. No complaints. Thank you!

We were allowed into our room early, the car was parked for us, and the staff took care of everything. Our evening meal was superb and breakfast delightful. We stayed for the Radiohead exhibition, a Christmas gift from my wife, and upgraded to cell 119. So glad we did: the room was warm, cosy, clean, and had everything we needed. Amazing hotel. We’ll be back in summer to explore beautiful Oxford in warmer weather.
