The Barclay Guest House

The family suite worked perfectly for us and our two kids under 4. It’s thoughtfully laid out, quiet, and has good curtains to keep out the light. The room is cleaned every day, and there’s a little fridge on the floor, handy if you need milk. The owners do everything they can to make your stay relaxing and nice. Highly recommend!

The beach and restaurants are just around the corner, and the owners gave us helpful tips, including where to catch the bus to the zoo. They were so accommodating throughout. We arrived on Friday and, although the rooms weren’t ready, they let the kids use the loos after our three-hour journey. The gentleman also pointed us to a parking spot around the corner that suited our slightly larger vehicle. Breakfast was lovely. We had a fantastic stay at the Barclay guest hotel, and the kids, my parents, my partner and I didn’t want to leave.

Kristin made me feel very welcome, with thoughtful little touches like a drink and a note in the room, plus a small bag of Devon fudge when I left. I booked at the last minute, so got a ground-floor room with a skylight but no window. It was immaculately clean, though I would have preferred a window. That was my only issue, and I’d still highly recommend the place.

Cookie the dog is very friendly and makes sure you know when she wants a belly rub! The rooms are clean and well looked after, and Kirsti was a wonderful host who honestly went beyond what I expected. I stayed at the Barclay Guest house for 2 months while working in Paignton, and would recommend it for work or a short break. If I’m working down here again, this is definitely where I’ll book.
