Premier Inn Penzance

The room was clean, the mattress was comfortable, and the staff were nice. My four-star rating comes down to the free Wi-Fi, which was so slow it was nearly unusable. Pages barely loaded, and YouTube or Netflix wasn't an option. Charging extra for usable Premium Wi-Fi in 2026 feels like charging separately for hot water or towels, in my opinion. Just add £1 a night to everyone's booking and be done with it.

The location, opposite Penzance Station, was good, but I wouldn't recommend the Premier Inn unless you're desperate. Staff seemed disinterested throughout. At check-in, nobody was at reception; three staff members were sitting around a breakfast table chatting and eating, even though I'd rung the bell twice. One eventually came to help. At supper, service was just as indifferent, and they barely managed a grimace of a smile. The food wasn't great, breakfast was pretty bad, and the coffee was the most disgusting cup I've ever had. Why not get a Nespresso machine, which at least makes decent coffee?

The restaurant was particularly impressive, and the rest was what you'd expect from a Premier Inn. The downside is the lack of on-site parking. You have to use the car park across the road, which costs £11 for the night.

I found blood spots on the pillow in the morning. Thankfully, I hadn't slept on that side of the bed. I told reception as I was leaving, but there was no apology, just a question about my room number. Dinner was okay, but only one man was looking after the restaurant, so it was hard to get his attention to pay the bill. He kept disappearing.
