The Longboat Inn

The interior looked impressive and was spotless, and the toilets were very clean too. The menu had plenty of choice, and I went for fish, chips and peas. The fish portion was enormous, the chips rather dry, and this meal was cheaper here than at other pubs in town. The bar staff seemed disinterested from the start. When I asked whether a table was free, the person behind the bar stayed focused on the computer and didn't even look at me. Their attitude had me wondering on my way out whether I'd return. Probably not.

The staff were warm and friendly, and I had a lovely chat with several of them. The food was good: tasty fish goujons, plus a complimentary full English breakfast with juice, yoghurt and other options. The bar had a wide range of beers, although its low ceiling was noticeable for someone tall like me. The room was basic, dated and a little worn, but had what I needed for one night. There's no lift, as is common in pub hotels. It's a convenient spot near the harbour, where 24-hour parking was reasonably priced. I'd stay again if passing through.

We enjoyed a tasty haddock lunch here, and the soup with bread made a lovely starter. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Since the place is near the train station, we also ordered takeaway lunches for our train journey two days later.

We stopped in for lunch and liked the decor and friendly service. We had two battered haddock portions with hand-cut chips and a Cornish cheeseburger, all excellent, plus three drinks. The bill came to £64, which wasn't too bad. Worth a visit.
