The Stanley

There’s plenty of parking and two very friendly dogs around the place. The rooms are small but do the job, though you can hear every door slam. When we arrived, the host greeted us with a written clipboard. We stayed one night, with a can of bear too. It’s a reasonably priced stopover, but breakfast is pretty basic and has to be booked the night before. Coffee didn’t work out for me: the filters in the decanters don’t work, so ground coffee gets added to suit your taste.

We found it easy to get around town, and the waterfront was nice for a walk. There’s on-site parking and pubs just a short stroll away. COVID meant tea and coffee facilities couldn’t be kept in the room, but they were happy to bring up a pot if you asked. The room suited our needs, and breakfast was fantastic. Hospitality was lovely too, always a smile and nothing seemed too much trouble. Thanks for having us, we hope to return soon!

The town centre is just a few minutes away on foot, and we had a great stay. The Stanley is one of the best bed and breakfasts in the UK. Staff were extremely friendly, and the rooms and facilities were spotlessly clean. They also maintained a very high standard of COVID-19 precautions, with breakfast times planned with all guests to support social distancing.

Kate, the landlady, was lovely, friendly and helpful, and Clyde the cat kept me company over breakfast 😊. I had a single room on the top floor with a sea view, a comfy bed and an en suite shower. Soft towels and shower toiletries were supplied, plus a hairdryer. Breakfast was a delight, with proper bacon and sausage included in the price. For a good-value evening meal nearby, I’d recommend The Dolphin Inn, just a short walk away. The food was lush!
