Charlotte House Hotel

A pleasant dining room and a nice cooked breakfast, with plenty of hot water in the bathroom. The bathroom itself was very cold, though. This is an old building and a little rough around the edges, but the room was clean and warm, with a double bed. Small room, no frills, but perfectly adequate for one or two nights at this basic B&B.

The landlady gave me a warm welcome, and the room was warm with a comfortable bed. Breakfast was great too. It was a 10 minute walk into the centre of Pboro for dinner and drinks. I had an early afternoon meeting, and they kindly let me stay in the morning and work from the restaurant using the wifi.

The owner/manager was incredibly flexible when I realized I'd booked for the day after we were due to arrive. I contacted the hotel that morning expecting the worst, and they moved us to that night without charging a cancellation fee. I’d spent 20 years working in military logistics, so getting the booking wrong was especially embarrassing. We only stayed briefly, arriving late after seeing friends in Huntingdon and leaving early the next day. The room was spacious and had an en suite, cable TV, kettle with tea, coffee, milk and sugar, a comfortable full-size bed, and decent Wi-Fi. It was a slightly unusual layout, with three steps down from the entrance, but we slept well. The building is a two-storey Victorian place on the edge of town, and the feel inside is a mix of modern and eclectic, still warm and welcoming. Peterborough Cathedral is less than a mile away. We paid £49.50 ($70.40), including a delicious full English breakfast, which kept it within my preferred $75 limit. Parking is behind the hotel: use Park Street, then turn left onto Woodbine Street. The sign for Charlotte House Car Park can be hard to spot after dark. We didn’t have enough time to enjoy much else, but the price and the owner’s help made this a great stay. I stayed for more than two weeks and had a lovely time. The room and breakfast were both great, and the lady looking after the accommodation and meals was very caring. 🙂
