The Stage

My wife and I paid £23 for a lunch we couldn’t eat. There was barely any BBQ pulled pork in my ciabatta, the chips were undercooked, and in my opinion the side salad was well past its date. It was awful, the worst lunch we’ve had in a long time. We used to stop here regularly while walking the dog, but no more. I rarely leave reviews, and there’s not much else to say.

The room was fantastic, with a huge bed and a huge bathtub, and breakfast the next morning was a great full English. The place was lively when we arrived, even though it was January: the bar, restaurant and function room were busy, with a good buzz of conversation and people watching football on the big screens. I’d definitely stay again.

The staff were superb and the restaurant was very good, and I’d recommend both. My room, though, was very poor for the price. The sink was cracked, the shower needed a proper scrub, the carpet was dirty, the furniture was old, and the window blinds were broken. It needs a serious revamp. There was a disco or something on both nights I stayed. I might as well have joined the party, because sleeping wasn’t possible until it finished, no earlier than 12.30 or 1. That noise wasn’t mentioned in the booking.

A nice setting, with friendly and polite staff. Parking is very limited, and street parking only allows two hours. I missed the restaurant’s serving times, but I’d recommend the hotel if you book a parking space.
