McKays Hotel Bar & Restaurant

McKays is centrally located, making it a good base for exploring and close to everything Pitlochry has to offer. We’ve stayed here many times and enjoyed this trip too. If not this year, we’ll return next year. We booked five nights with family, starting Sunday 22nd March. My room, 119, was in the newer side annex. The rest of the family were in older rooms 112 and, after a mix-up, 114. One person in the group had to move, and I’m not completely sure why. It was a slight inconvenience but didn’t affect the stay. The newer rooms had nicer decor, though that may just be personal choice. The bathroom was nice and well equipped, with a good shower, and there were plenty of tea and coffee facilities and a good-sized TV. Breakfast has changed from full service to a buffet, which suited us better. The hot and cold choices were good, but the breakfast coffee machine had limited options and no latte, which I would have preferred. Personal choice, of course. We ate two evening meals there, both really tasty, though service was a bit slow while it was busy. The rooms were good enough in the older side and better in the newer one. Staff behind the scenes were really attentive, especially the room service crew, who kept everything immaculate and were very polite, friendly and chatty. The bar team were more focused on serving and moving on, though they weren’t unpleasant. Logan, a younger lad working on the first day, was happy to join in with some banter. Thanks again to everyone for another great stay. We’re already looking forward to our next trip to Pitlochry and staying at McKays.

The hotel is right on the Main Street, with plenty of lovely cafes and shops nearby. Our room was cosy and had everything we needed, and breakfast was generous and very nice. Dinner was a less pleasant experience, though, as some of the male staff were quite rude while serving us. The waiter at breakfast was really lovely, which made for a much better experience than the night before.

Thanks to Lynn and everyone on the morning restaurant shift. You made us feel so welcome, and the hearty breakfast and friendly service sent us off in good shape for the drive home after another great weekend. McKays is our go-to for a short break any time of year: relaxed, lively and outdoorsy, with live music, good food, friendly and helpful staff, and well-behaved dogs welcome. The perfect place to stay in Pitlochry. Much appreciated from all the Casey family.

The room was cute, though very small. With our suitcase open, there was hardly room to walk in front of the bed, but that was manageable for one night. We did find a stain on the sheets, so please check them more carefully next time. The bathroom ventilation also made a noise like a stolen car alarm for ages, even after we switched off the light. Our winter deal included breakfast, which was nice, but pub music carried on until 10, so it may bother you if you need an early night. The room was off a corridor people passed through, and footsteps woke us early, so light sleepers may struggle. We only had a short stop in the village because the weather wasn't good for sightseeing, though it seems there's a lot to see. This place works fine for a night or two.
